Local Anesthesia

A type of anesthesia (loss of feeling or sensation) which abolishes pain in a limited area of the body and is used for minor operations and in many dental procedures.

It may be achieved by injection directly to the gums or mouth tissue to provide relief to a local area of the mouth or gum.  Commonly used local anesthetics use by Dentists are Lidocaine, Prilocaine and Mepivicaine.

An advantage in using local anesthesia is that the patient remains alert during the procedure without the pain.
